What You’ll Need:
Barbecue Sauce – I’m obsessed with Sweet Baby Ray’s barbecue sauce. Sometimes I use it in stews, as a dipping sauce, and of course my meatballs. I try to avoid buying lots of condiments because I like a clean and minimalistic fridge so buying a barbecue sauce that never goes out of style is important to me.
Eggs – I typically like buying pasture raised organic eggs. While I’m not vegan, I still believe in buying products that are less harmful for the environment and animals. With that said, if I’m having trouble finding my ideal type of egg I will opt for a lesser quality product but my preference will always be pasture raised organic. Not only do I feel better eating them on an ethical level but you can absolutely taste the difference.
Ground Beef – Since I’m kosher, I typically stock up on my meats and purchased them outside of the city since Manhattan can get very pricy when buying kosher food. I love cooking with ground beef because there are so many versatile dishes to make and it’s very easy to freeze.
Dried Basil – I love working with dried herbs because I’m all about preserving foods and not constantly buying fresh herbs when it’s only me and my husband. I don’t necessarily need a full head of basil during the week. If I’m not cooking for others, I find that dried herbs get the job done and you’ll find yourself buying and throwing out less groceries.
Finely Chopped Onions – Okay, it used to take me a very long time to cut onions, but I recommend practicing your knife skills. Not only will you save less time in the kitchen but I also started tearing up less. It’s a win win! Check out this tutorial on dicing an onion. How To Finely Chop An Onion | Gordon Ramsey
Bread Crumbs – Use a bread crumb that can be kept in your pantry for a while. I know that it’s great to make fresh bread crumbs, but this takes extra time that you may not having during a typical week night. I like using Jason Seasoned Bread Crumbs.
Meatball Tips:
• Lightly form your meatballs. If you tightly roll your meatballs then they will cook very thick and on the tougher side.
• Use a spoon or ice cream scooper to make the perfect meatball size. Rather than eye-balling the size, this will help make sure all meatballs come out the same size so that they’re cooked evenly.
